It is an incredible gift to behold the art of Setsuo Kano. Over the past 6 years, Setsuo Kano has created an impressive body of creative work, paintings which explore the mysteries of life and mujo, the Buddhist concept of impermanence. His paintings delve deeply into transitory nature of our existence and invite us to sense beyond the visible to experience the ephemerality of the world.
On a recent visit to Setsuo Kano’s Tokyo studio with the Fenollosa family, we were privileged with a private viewing of Kano’s original and contemporary approach to art making. We delighted over his playful imagination and approach to art making. Using water-based inks on traditional washi, Kano’s paintings synthesize the spirit of Edo-period aesthetics with modern sensibilities, offering viewers a space for reflection and enjoyment. We look forward to his continued prolific creative output and sharing his work with a global audience.
